Instil Bio is seeking an experienced engineering manager to lead the Systems Engineering department, as part of a larger effort for driving cell therapy manufacturing innovation. The role will require cross-functional alignment and facilitation of development, implementation, and operational build-out. The role reports to: Senior Director, Process Sciences & Engineering.
- Responsibilities
- Drive technology requirements engineering and traceability for cross-functional stakeholders
- Lead technology verification and support validation activities, with emphasis on satisfaction of requirements, compliance, quality, and robustness
- Develop and manage a platform automation strategy for cell therapy manufacturing technologies
- Interface with external partners to drive development initiatives towards platform automation strategy
- Manage Instil’s manufacturing IP portfolio in collaboration with R&D, Process Development & Manufacturing, and Legal
- Work in close collaboration with Process Engineering, Manufacturing, MSAT, Quality, Data Analytics, and IT to manage program-level risks, communicate progress to leadership, and drive cross-functional alignment
- Skills/Knowledge
- MS or PhD in bioengineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or relevant technical degrees, with 7+ years of experience in the biopharma industry and 4+ years of managing technical teams
- Familiar with systems engineering principles and process automation architecture
- Experience in technology development and alliance management is a plus
- Familiarity with GLP and GMP regulations and general project management principles
- Experience with statistical methods for engineering and basic sciences
- Ability to adapt and function in a dynamic and cross-functional environment
- Self-motivated, technically driven, and willing to take on duties outside of general role
- Contribute to maintenance of a safe and collaborative work environment in accordance with policies/procedures/regulations
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills
- Ability to interpret and communicate relevant developments in relevant academic literature
- Creative thinking skills to challenge current understanding and help define process improvement and optimization opportunities
